There’s something about summer in Alaska that feels infinite. The light lingers late into the evening, the air feels golden, and nothing seems rushed. It was the perfect backdrop for Zoé and Smitty’s intimate midsummer wedding in Willow — a day that felt thoughtful, personal, and completely true to them.

Midsummer Alaskan Wedding

Zoé + Smitty's alaskan wedding at willow aviation

The day began quietly, with Zoé sitting  outside, coffee near by, building her own bouquet. It set the tone for everything that followed — unhurried, meaningful, and hands-on in the best way. Inside, the girls got ready together, laughter drifting through the house, while downstairs the guys played pool and eased into the day.

Smitty wore a vest handmade by his mom that hung nearby. She crafted the leather, the lining, and even hand-stitched the beading herself. It was more than an outfit piece; it felt like a piece of legacy.

A Slow, Intentional Morning

An Intimate Backyard Ceremony

Planning an Intimate Alaska Wedding?

Their ceremony took place in the yard at Willow Aviation, a cozy venue with a B+B feel that makes everyone instantly relax. Surrounded by close family and friends, Zoé and Smitty exchanged vows that were heartfelt and deeply genuine. The kind that make you quietly blink behind your camera and hope no one notices.
The speeches carried that same sense of history — stories layered with inside jokes, shared memories, and the kind of love that’s clearly been built over time. Nothing felt performative. It simply felt real.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels relaxed, intentional, and true to who you are — whether in Alaska or somewhere else entirely — I’d love to help you document it in a way that feels natural and effortless.

A dirt road detour

After their send-off, we realized something important had been forgotten — the marriage license hadn’t been signed. Instead of panic, it turned into laughter as we pulled over on a quiet dirt road to take care of it.
It felt spontaneous and perfectly fitting for the day — a little unexpected, a little adventurous, and completely them.

A Reception Full of Color and Endless Sunlight

Zoé thoughtfully styled the reception tables with bud vases and colorful silky napkins, adding little touches of texture and personality throughout the space. When the blue tent went up — a last-minute decision — it unexpectedly became one of the best elements of the entire setup. Against the green Alaska backdrop, it added a playful burst of color that made everything feel even more alive.
As the evening unfolded, they shared their first dance beneath the lingering summer sun and cut their cake in full daylight. There was no rush to beat the sunset, no pressure to move quickly from one event to the next. Conversations lingered. Laughter carried. The light stayed.
That’s the magic of summer in Alaska.

Intimate Portraits at Hatcher Pass

Rather than stepping away from their guests for a long portrait session during the wedding, Zoé and Smitty chose to stay fully present with their people. Later, the two of them headed toward Hatcher Pass for a more private moment together.
We stopped along the river first, letting the quiet settle in, before climbing a short but steep hill that opened into rolling green landscapes and layered mountain views stretching as far as we could see. The kind of view that makes you pause for a second and just take it in.
It was simple, breathtaking, and completely worth the climb.
